HAVE A ONE ON ONE DISCUSSION
Prepare the minds of your wards emotionally, psychologically and practically towards the new term. Get to know about the past issues with academics, friends and teachers/tutors. You can also go to the school to find out if there are past issues to deal with. Work any issue out.
WORK ON AN AGREED BEDTIME ROUTINE (THE EARLY TO BED, EARLY TO RISE)
The habit of sleeping early helps get your child started on a high note. Based on the agreed sleeping time, which should be early, parent must see that it is implemented.
The recommended sleeping time is 8pm generally but then older children can be modified. If normal bedtime is 8pm, let them sleep at 7.30 pm. An agreed bedtime routine helps reduce any form of argument that may arise. This will aid them knowing what to do at every point. You may even include siesta as when required.
According to the sleep foundation, preschoolers (3 to 5 years) are recommended to sleep between 10 to 13 hours daily while school-aged children (6 to 13 years) are recommended to sleep between nine to 11 hours daily. Remove distractions that may work against such schedules.
HAVE A MEDICAL CHECK
During the Holiday, enough play time for the child with respect to the environment and with friends. A parent can do a mild medical check to be sure things are in order. Remember is only an healthy child that can learn and perform well academically.
Check all your former school messages like emails, circulars, text or watspp messages to be informed of any requirements needed for resumption.
PREPARE FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES
Get all your normal items, which facilitate school preparations. Be proactive by getting the school supplies – snacks, stationery, lunch bags, school bag etc. Do not get confused during the moments.
BACK TO SCHOOL CLOTHING
Check the children’s clothes for any torn outfit. If it be the uniform, day wears, sportswear e.t.c. It could even be the outfit are smaller, since children grow quickly. Get to find out on time, so if it requires a change of outfit, you can get a new one. This should be done as soon as possible.
SCHOOL DAY ROUTINE
When school actually starts, plan out school day routines. There is a time for everything including a time to wake, eat, go to school, do homework,have tutoring, house chores, play and go to bed. Routines help your child to mature and improve in his personal life. This will bring order to your life and save you time and a whole lot of stress.
ALWAYS HAVE EXTRAS OF EVERYTHING
Things would always require replacement especially consumable items. It is only ideal to avoid pressure, you get extras of every item. Often time, we don’t get to remember all the things we need for school supplies and even if you miraculously ticked everything on your list, you’re still not safe. Get extra of what you can afford.

After the sum of fun and enjoyment, it is only ideal for your child to probably struggle in getting back to academic mode.
