Learning does not always occur due to various factors, which would not be discussed in this article. There are various learning styles which needs to be identified for a better learning outcomes.
Learning styles depends on the personality of the person. The following are various learning styles of people;
Visual Learners: The learning process of visual learners is enhanced through images, words written, using pictures, and drawing time lines for events. They acquire information through seeing, thereby preferring to read than listen. Seeing things written on the board and taking notes during class is key to their learning process. Strengths like; following directions instinctively, make good observations, easily visualize objects and can see the passage from a page in a book in his or her mind are demonstrated. The strategy for learning for such learners are; studying in solitude, take notes during lectures, to make sure the child has good viewing point, use outlines and concept maps to organize your notes, Be sure to read the diagrams, maps, and other visuals that go along with text to help you remember it and watching educational videos.
Auditory Learners: Learners acquire information through listening. You educate them by repeating words aloud, small-group discussion, debates, listening to books on tape, oral reports, and oral interpretation. They depend on lectures and readily take part during classes. These are the kind of people in University days, attend almost all types of tutorials and probably record lectures.
They show strength such as; following verbal directions, making oral reports and involved in class presentations, good at story telling e.t.c. The easy way to enhance their learning process; through listening on audio recordings, attending lectures and tutorials, join study groups for verbal interaction, take a good place in class to hear well.
Kinesthetic Learners: Learners who learn through hands-on activities (experiments, etc.), projects, frequent breaks to allow movement, visual aids, role-play, and field trips. Their learning process is more about what they do and practice. Some of the features they show are; Great hand-eye coordination, Quick reactions, Excellent experimenters, Good at sports, art and drama, Talking with their hands, Tapping the table when learning, they mime things to boost your memory. The best way for them to enhance their learning process is through activities such as paired readings, group work, experiments, projects, plays, etc,. They should be allowed to bounce their legs, or doodle during lectures, move around before or after class, complete relevant tasks during the lecture, filling out worksheets or taking notes.
Verbal Learners: These are Learners that learn through verbalizing the information received. The process involves writing and speaking words. They tend to easily express themselves both verbally and writing wise. You would see they often talk to themselves, as they try to figure out a problem, and they may sometimes find themselves reading aloud to better understand. They get involved with activities such as; public speaking, debating, politics, writing. The learning process can be enhanced through presentations, listening, speaking, collaborating with others and even teaching their mates.
The various styles are not restricted to the list above. For their learners who are dependent, learners who are independent. The various learners are based on their personality.
